La siciliana ribelle
Directed by Marco Amenta
Synopsis
What would drive a seventeen-year-old girl to betray her family? And if that family was the mafia?
Inspired to a true story, on November 5th 1991, Rita Atria a young 17-year-old Sicilian girl, goes to see an anti-Mafia judge Paolo Borsellino to denounce the Mafia system that was responsible for the murder of her father and her brother. It is the first time that such a young woman from a Mafia family rebels and betrays the Mafia. From that moment on, Rita's days are numbered. She only has nine months to live...

Solid but workman-like telling of the true story of Rita Atria from director Marco Amenta. Veronica D'Agostino is engaging enough as Rita but the story feels rushed and the threat never feels fully realised. It's fine just might have been better served as a prestige mini series.

Watched this for my Italian film class. Quite an interesting movie based off of real events. Thought the start of the movie was great. Didn't like direction it went at the end as they strayed quite a bit from the real story and did not give Rita the nuance she deserved.

Once again, we see how fucked up the mafia is...

Bleak but purposely so

Decent story, decent flick...but I'm a sucker for accurate portrayals...and the non-intimidating small town boss depiction of Toto Riina was almost laughable. The Sicilian Girl is one of the few modern remakes I could actually get behind.

actress who plays Rita looks like Regine Chassagne. Not a lot formally going on although cool matches / the red on white... italy has its issues to work out ......... but I am hopeful for a day when there is peace on the island of Sicily

do not watch mafia movies at 3am your anxiety will be triggered every 5 minutes

i think this is doing some really interesting things with its use of perspective (the way it whips from one to the next the with speed of its editing, the first person shots like what precedes the poster shot) but unfortunately the subtitles for the copy i was watching crapped out half-way through and i was too tired to attempt to translate! oh well. maybe foreboding for my upcoming rome trip but it's okay 👍

The story is compelling but the characters are mostly reduced to cliche.
